Kind of a Drive-By but Had to Share

First grade work: Choose a word from the word list, use it in a sentence, and draw an accompanying picture.

The beret kills me. And "good art work"?

Life - A Snapshot

Background:
HRH's class has been given a few disposable cameras and an assignment to take pictures of their house, neighborhood, favorite room, family, etc. HRH is the last in the class to take the camera home. There were about seven or eight pictures left.

Scene:
Manic Mommy stepping out of the shower, naked as the day she was born (clearly, you can already see where this is headed).

A knock on the door.

RC enters carrying disposable camera that is part of HRH's homework.

RC: I just want to take one picture.

MM (mirror strategically behind her, of course) simultaneously reaches for a towel and the camera. Screeches: NOOOOO!!! Don't take the picture!!

Options:
1. Run camera over with newly-repaired truck.

2. Develop all pictures to determine if nudie pic of naked mommy was, in fact taken. Also to be taken into consideration: person working the photo desk at Target.

3. Hand the camera back to kindergarten teacher and hope for the best.

DaVinci Has His Last Supper, I Have This

Nearly two years ago, we were hosting Christmas at our house. As we were piling the food onto the table and guests and family members settling themselves in, I opened a couple of bottles of wine and began pouring. As I did so, I called out "Who wants Merlot?".

From the living room, the 1 1/2 year old voice of RC answered enthusiastically "I do!".

It's gone on to become a standing family joke, with someone or other yelling out the question and the rest of us replying, Marco Polo-style.

Today, HRH brought this home from school:

DaVinci can have his Last Supper, I'm going to frame this work of art to be immortalized in our dining room.

Om

This is the picture hanging over my kitchen table. I had it framed in a dark wood frame that exactly matches my table and chairs. The yellow just below the upper set of houses is the exact shade of my walls.

It makes me happy to sit, and drink tea, and look at this scene. In the same way I can watch Under the Tuscan Sun and Much Ado About Nothing over and over again.

Visual bliss.

Ambush Makeover

Ta-freakin'-da!

So what do you guys think? The grey-on-grey was really starting to get to me and the alternatives on Blogger were either equally grim or already taken by my blog buddies. When Holly re-animated her life with stunningly, retro, mid-century results, I decided it was time to take the plunge. Especially when I saw my new best friend's awesome rates.

I've been working with Cyn, the Nap Warden over at NW Designs to create my awesome new look. Okay, done with the hyperlinks. She could not have been easier to work with.

  • When I said I liked apple green but not mint green, she knew what I meant.

  • When I said I wanted something "different" but didn't know what, she gave me options.

  • When I said I wanted to be 110 lbs driving around in a Benz convertible...well, there's only so much magic she can work.

So the boys and I are off to a beach/playdate so this is yet another drive by blog but please, kick off your shoes, wander around, make yourselves at home. There's iced tea in the fridge. I'll be back shortly.

Evolving

Evolution of the Giraffe by HRH

These were drawn just a few weeks apart. The second was done using a "How to Draw Animals" book. But still, behold the artistry of my son.

HRH's Latest Master Works

Clearly, a giraffe. Possibly wearing Mickey Mouse ears. Definitely happy.
Two summers ago on the Cape, Andy bought a little inflatable raft and took HRH out on the river behind our rented house. Notice he's got blue eyes (and oars for hands).

Should I be afraid yet?

HRH: It's a mad clown. I made it at school today.

I can just see the letter home now.

You Like Me, You Really Like Me!

One of my favorite bloggers/entrepreneurs, Mommy Needs a Cocktail had a little contest to pick a caption for a new maternity shirt she's designing. I submitted the following:

  • I’m gestating. What’s your excuse?
  • My body was a temple, now it’s a factory.
  • My eyes are up there ^.
  • Nothing says I love you like an epidural.
Guess which of my submissions won? Go here to find out. Okay, no suspense. It was the last one.

I'm surprised and thrilled that I won because, honestly, it's an honor just to be nominated. If you don't believe me, or if you just need a really good laugh, go to http://mommyneedsacocktail.com/2007/11/14/baby-brewing-bump-contest/ and check out the other submissions. Hysterical.

So now my big decision is what should I select for my prize? Help me decide at http://babybrewing.com/main.sc.

Thanks again for this honor, Kristen. Hope the linky-love properly expresses my gratitude.

CSI - New England

Scene: Loud crying erupts from previously playing children in livingroom.

MM: What was that?

RC enters kitchen, holding head, sobbing. HRH at his heels.

MM crouches down to kiss and make it all better.

MM (in sing-songy voice): Whaaat haaappennned?

HRH (not letting RC get a word in edgewise): He was on the coffee table -

RC: Sobs unintelligibly over HRH's explanation.

MM kisses boo-boo again.

HRH: He was on the coffee table -

RC (around pacifier in mouth): I'm all better, Mom.

(and he is! RC is the fastest healer I've ever met)

HRH (compulsive confessor/'the informer'): Wait! I'll show you:

Fin.

Also? A shout out to my doppleganger. I never said I was original. Give her a look-see. She's funny, too! And to quote The New Girl, is there room for one more?
