What Would You Do With $6,500.00?

I could buy this Rolex for Andy:
I could buy this diamond ring for me:
Apparently, I could buy a Civil War musket from this guy:
(God love the Google search)

I could rent this place in Cabo San Lucas for a week:
Excuse me, I meant a night. Yeah, that deserves a second photo:
Or this place in the South of France for a week:
(but not in June, July, or August)

I could buy this original Star Trek artwork:(and no shit, there's a ton of other Star Trek paraphernalia that I couldn't buy with $6,500.00!

I could buy this Corvette:
I could buy the boys 1,200 Wii Games:

Or we could buy a new boiler. Guess which one we're doing?

What would you do?

  1. Argh!

Definitely something in the vacay realm. I'm thinking a week of snowboarding in Aspen with the kids.

  2. Oh, so sorry... But just think how happy you'll be that the boiler didn't die in the middle of the winter....

  3. I would so quickly buy the boiler because I love hot water in my baths. Long soaks just aren't the same without it. Enjoy!

  4. ohhh, I hope for your sake it is the sweet bling bling ring. Sadly, I am thinking it is the boiler. I think the main draw back of homeowning is that you spend a butt load of money on crap no one cares about (ours this summer was a dumpster to fill up with trees and bushes we cut down and a tune up for my car) wicked exciting!

  5. Oh I'm crying for you. Our boiler was about $5K. Could have bought me new kitchen cabinets.

On the off chance you don't ACTUALLY need a boiler, totally buy the ring. You can always sell it later and take a vacation.

  6. It might be cheaper to move to a warmer climate. Jeez. So, so sorry.

  7. Well, at least you'll be warm this winter ;)

Ouch, though! That's a lot of dough for something not so exciting (but needed).

  8. I'm pretty certain you're going for the Civil War musket. Did I win?

  9. What about opting for Cabo...and then "borrowing" their boiler? Win. Win.

  10. That bites. I don't like spending money on such functional stuff. Until I have to go without my heat, cool air, or hot water, or freezer, or reliable car.......

  11. OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! That is so so so true. Have I repeated words enough to make my point?

    That SUCKS!!!

But you are so funny! ;)

  12. We just spent a bit of money on some home repairs. None of which are visible to the naked eye. Not very satisfying...

  13. Ugh. Us too. Home repairs, always. It's like buying underwear. Not fun.

  14. While not nearly as expensive as a new boiler (we did that one 8 years ago)we are using money we could have used for a couple nights on the Cape to pay to have a woodpecker captured and the damage done to our roof by said woodpecker to be fixed. Ugh.

  16. Oh, a boiler. I'm sorry. they don't last like they used to, eh?

I definitely would have gone for a vacation in France or the Star Trek poster (yes, I am a BIG geek). :)

  17. Great post. Funny how our responsible lives get in the way of all our fun. I would sell my house boiler and all and move to the south of France. When my money ran out I would be in trouble, but it would be fun.

  18. Oh and I thought you were going for the civil war musket, damn.

I can so relate to this. After our first daughter was born we had a gas water heater break ($1,500), termites eat through our foyer wall ($3,00), a new roof (insurance paid for that except $1,000 deduct.), but you catch my drift.

It's just the sheer joy of home ownership!

  19. Ah ha ha ha ha! (ahem) You don't need trekkie gear anyway! When we win Powerball on Wednesday, we'll help you out!

  20. Oh, how I would love to say I'm buying a new wardrobe or going on a trip or something, but I'd pay bill and save for our new house. Wah-waaaaah (Queue the Debbie Downer music)

  21. Hmmm...my heart says diamond but my head says frigging boiler.

  22. Or you could order a boiler online. Have it delivered to the house. Don't know, maybe $2500? Hire a plumber to install it? $1000?

...and with the leftover $ take a vaca!
