On the Rainbow Bridge

My little Maddie-dog got out of the house, got hit by a car, and died today. I just got back from the vet a little while ago. Andy's home, and we talked to the boys.

In true fashion, HRH drew a picture of Maddie going up to join Grampa up in heaven. Gremlin is angry and wants to fly to heaven and get her back. Andy is being supportive of me. And I'm blaming myself for letting her run off.

My poor little girl. She was dead before I picked her up off the street and before I drove like a maniac to the vet's. The vet could not have been nicer, getting me water and allowing me to stand there and pet her, crying for as long as I wanted. I've got her collar in my bag now.

It wasn't my children, it wasn't my husband, or any person. But I feel her loss and our house is emptier without her.

    Oh my goodness! I am SO SORRY to hear. How sad...what a beautiful little dog she was. That photo is adorable!! At least you have a lot of good memories with her.

    I am so sorry for your family's loss. They ARE our OTHER babies.

    I am so sorry and sad for you.

    We have been lucky--our little beagle bolts like nobody's business. I try to be vigilant, we all do, but every once in a while . . . Please don't beat yourself up.

    I stalk your blog frequently and have never posted before, but I was moved to tears when I read your post. I'm am SO very sorry. Your loss is not diminished simply because this was a canine vs. human loss, they are our family and we grieve their loss as we would any loved one.

    That's horrible. I'm so sorry for your family's loss. She sure looks like a sweet thing in her costume. I hope her death was instant.
